A rather prickly subject

We saw this little chap (or chapess) in the garden today. We do see them from time to time but as they are nocturnal it’s unusual to see them out looking for food in broad daylight. It looked very healthy but we thought it wise to supplement it’s diet with a large portion of our [...]

We left for Hadleigh, Suffolk at around 9:00 AM this morning in pouring rain. The roads were very wet and on the winding road we would sometimes go through a very large puddle on the near-side of the road sending a sheet of water cascading over the windscreen. By the time we had parked in [...]

The V.I.P. treatment!

On Friday we are travelling to Hadleigh, Suffolk where we are to be given a V.I.P. tour round the inside of Hadleigh Guildhall in order to take some photographs for the web site before it opens to the public for the summer season. I’m quite looking forward to that. The weather forecast for Friday is [...]

No rest for the wicked!

One problem, I've discovered, with having a web site which includes photographs is that the less honest among us take photographs from the web site and use them for their own purposes without permission. Last year I caught the Daily Mail, a British daily paper, using a photograph from my web site, for an article [...]

A short visit to Maldon

The weather today was mostly cloudy with the occasional flash of sun coupled with a very strong wind – not a gale but strong enough. I drove to Maldon, Essex, parked in a car park next to the canal, and walked along the path by the River Chelmer and took two pictures during an all [...]

Head in the clouds

Now I've seen everything! Did you know that there is a Cloud Appreciation Society in this country? That's very appropriate really as we do have a lot of them – clouds I mean. Today we have a grey uniform all-over cloud cover which I don't appreciate but perhaps somebody somewhere does.

Barking mad!

I wasn’t anticipating making an entry today but surprises happen. We were both woken at dawn this morning by a Muntjac deer barking not far from our open bedroom window. It gave one bark about every 3-5 seconds and the little blighter must have kept going for twenty minutes. For those of you who have [...]

It’s nice to know!

I’ve just had an email from someone who has done the High Beach Walk in Epping Forest and enjoyed it. That’s the second person who has told me they’ve done the walk and haven’t got lost which is nice to know. I could have been, inadvertantly, sending people into the depths of the forest to [...]

Orchids galore!

The weather today has been gorgeous – warm, dry and sunny. I walked to a local meadow to see if the Green Winged Orchids were flowering and they certainly were. There were three separate areas which were covered in orchids and they looked spectacular. I went only as far as the entrance gate because the [...]

Our next trip

Our next ‘staying away’ trip is planned for next month and will be the first this year. We will be going to Norwich in Norfolk for a week and our accommodation is now booked for Monday 12th – Monday 19th June. Our hotel is on the western edge of the city centre and the distance [...]
